About

Documentary filmmaking is playing a huge role as a starting place to start revealing different ideas and ways of living. Knowing that a good documentary is a catalyst for action and change, Through the Veils Films, is leading the way in documenting the seismic changes needed to keep the human story alive.

Through the Veils Films mission is to create documentaries that engage audiences and challenge minds. Its first feature-length documentary, Suryalila: Six Years in Search of Sanity, a film about yoga and sustainable living has been officially selected in film festivals and will have an international theatrical release in 2020.

The Story

Suryalila

In Southern Spain, nestled in the foothills of the Grazalema Mountains, a strange and otherworldly structure has appeared. In a place where not much ever changes, the erection of a gigantic dome has aroused the curiosity of the bemused locals. What is it? Who built it? And what’s it for?

Vidya Heisel is an inspiring entrepreneur and visionary with big dreams. The film follows her rocky and fascinating journey to create Suryalila, an unsurpassed centre for yoga in the heart of the Andalusian countryside, the development of which presents her with some ethically difficult choices between her business and her values.

Suryalila: Six Years in Search of Sanity explores the burgeoning trend of wellness retreats, spirituality and the fundamental need to come back to ourselves, to find community and a sense of belonging in this increasingly detached world.

Team

Gwyn Jones

Editor

Gwyn Jones has worked in documentaries for 25 years and is a multi-award winning and nominated film editor with heavyweight credits to his name, mainly for the BBC and Channel 4.  After collaborating with Lisa on several documentary series, he was keen to cut a feature length documentary with the editorial and artistic freedom that working on an independent film brings.

Lisa Dunn

Director and Camera

Having worked for 20 years as a programme and documentary filmmaker for the BBC, Lisa Dunn recently sought out a calmer existence as a yoga teacher. On visiting Suryalila as a guest, she was lured back behind the camera, inspired to follow the unfolding story of this unique haven by producing her first feature length documentary.
